Shell Houston Open Roundup/Masters Preview

With JB Holmes making Par on the 18th hole on Sunday evening,The Masters field is set at 99 players (Johnson Wagner would have been No. 100 with a win).  Holmes finally overcame a season of close calls to grab his fourth win on the PGA Tour.  JB outlasted Jordan Spieth and Johnson Wagnier (not a typo) after shooting a 64 and a tournament tying 29 on he front side.

Even though he was not able to close the deal on Sunday, Jordan Spieth is still a favorite heading into the first major of the year.  He not only has the length for Augusta National, but his short game has been outstanding the last few weeks.

According to Bovada, the current odds for winning the 79th Masters Tournament are:

Rory McIlroy: 11/2

Jordan Spieth: 8/1

Bubba Watson: 10/1

Dustin Johnson: 16/1

Tiger Woods: 33/1

Fred Couples: 200/1

Odds and Ends

  • Golf Channel on NBC ends their six-week stint covering the PGA Tour.  Say so long to Dan Hicks, Johnny Miller, Rodg, and the rest of the gang, and say "Hello Friends" to Jim Nantz, SIR Nick Faldo, and the rest of the CBS golf team.  NBC will return in May to cover the World Golf Championships Cadillac Match-Play (now in prime time) and The Players before CBS takes it home (with cameos by Fox and ESPN).
  • Apparel "scripting" for players competing (and not competing) in the Masters have been released.  If you want to know what your favorite players like Rickie Fowler, Jordan Spieth, and Tiger Woods are wearing, you can click on the links.  Personally, I think the best scripting belongs to Tim Herron.
