The National Championship
Tonight - Michigan will play for the National Championship. Given the expectations for this team, as chronicled in great depth but this blog over the course of the season, tonight was never a given. Michigan’s opponent Villanova, who had national championship aspirations from the opening tip of the season, Michigan was not expected to fair quite as well. Early on, many questioned whether or not Michigan would even make the NCAA field.
Yet here we are - 7 hours from the last college basketball game of the year. The eyes of the sports world will be focused on San Antonio Texas where 70,000 fans will watch the last 2 teams square off for a National Championship. Most of the country is expecting a Villanova win. The Wildcats absolutely throttled Kansas in their semifinal game on Saturday night. They have 7 players who are able to shoot the 3.
While Michigan’s defense should slow down the Wildcats offense a bit, if Michigan gets off to another slow start and struggles from 3 then it is going to be a long long night for the Wolverines. The tenancious defense of the Wolverines combined with stellar shooting from Wagner, Robinson, and Rackman is enough to capture Michigan’s 2nd National Championship.

The ride through this year’s NCAA Tournament has felt reminiscent to the 2013 title game run - right down to the buzzer beating 3 pointer to help Michigan advance. In 2013, the Wolverines battled a very good Louisville team in a game that went right down to the last minute. Michigan is hoping that this time around, the basketball Gold’s and their fortunes will shine down on the Wolverines.Moe Wagner is feeling pretty good going into tonight’s natty.@UMichBBall @UMichAthletics https://t.co/S690hsvlhA pic.twitter.com/AnSlWmNQeX— The Players' Tribune (@PlayersTribune) April 2, 2018
