Masters Week

The second weekend of April not only is the unofficial start of the spring season, but it is also the return of major golf championships.  The Masters, which begins Thursday this week, is arguably the most famous golf tournament in the entire world.  It is the only major championship which is played on the same golf course every single year.  It also happens to be a tournament so steeped in tradition, that fans are called patrons and the biggest prize is a green jacket.

The Masters takes care of it's player, and even though it is a pricey and difficult ticket to obtain, the Masters takes care of the fans (a sandwich still costs $2).  It is the preeminent golf event for both the competitors and the patrons.  It is a week soaked in history and both organic and manufactured tradition.

Last year, Jordan Spieth ran away with his first major championship and was a two-putt on the 18th green away from setting the all time Masters scoring record.  In other words: the tournament was incredibly anti-climatic.  What makes great Masters' tournaments stand out is the charge of the players on the Back 9 on the Sunday.  The roars from the gallery reverberate from the tall Georgia pines.

This year might see a return to the epic slug-fests upon which legends have been born (Jack in 86, Tiger in 05).  Already this year, Jordan Spieth, Adam Scott and Bubba Watson have all won on the PGA Tour heading into this week.  Oh, and a guy named Jason Day, who won the last major in 2015 has won twice coming into this week.  If Rory gets hot we could have a loaded leader board come Sunday afternoon.

Our pick at B&B?  Going with the hot hand and the Vegas favorite: Jason Day.
