80th Masters: Round 1

Despite a lackluster showing of late, Jordan Spieth returned to Augusta National and let it be known that he does not intend on letting go of that Green Jacket anytime soon.  Spieth led after the first round at -6.  For a while, it looked like we were heading for a showdown between Jason Day and Jordan Spieth after Day got it to -5, but Jason fell off on the back 9 and finished the day at even par.

Rory McIlroy, who is looking to complete the career Grand Slam, shot a -2.  Phil Mickelson bogeyed the 18th hole to finish his day at even par.  Rickie Fowler shot an 80 to finish at +8.  Fowler will have a lot of work to do on Friday just to try to make the cut.

I won't post it here because it is brutally painful to watch, but Ernie had a 6-putt from 2 feet away on the first hole yesterday.  The four-time major champion shot an 80 in his opening round.
