Wrapping the B1G Regular Season

Michigan had to finish this year's Big Ten regular season with two road games.  The first against a much improved Penn State team.  The second against a down Maryland team desperate for a win to try to find a way into the NCAA Tournament.

Michigan won both of them.  The Wolverines put an exclamation point on the regular season by thumping the Terrapins 85-61. MAAR led the Maize and Blue in scoring with 28 points.  Michigan led by 30 points at the half - and the Terrapins were booed off the court by their home fans.  Maryland was unable to stop Michigan - the Wolverines were hitting from the outside, penetrating the lane, etc.  No shot was unavailable to Michigan through the entirety of the game.

Now the Wolverines wait to see where they will be seeded for the Big Ten Tournament which is taking place a week early because Jim Delaney thought it would be really neato to play at Madison Square Garden.  Currently Michigan sits as the No. 5 seed.  They are tied with Nebraska who holds the tie-breaker because of the head-to-head record against the Wolverines.  However, a loss by the Cornhuskers tomorrow night against Penn State would put Michigan into the 4 spot and the double-bye.

It probably doesn't matter what Michigan does in the Big Ten Tournament - they are a lock for the NCAA Tournament in March.  Unlike last year where Michigan had to win it all to secure their spot, the Wolverines are hovering around the 6-seed on most projected brackets.  The Wolverines are also playing their best basketball of the season.  Remember how Michigan struggled with Maryland at home several weeks ago?  Not today.  Today, the Wolverines manhandled the Terrapins on their court.

It doesn't matter how well you play all year - it matters how you are playing come Tournament time.  And Michigan is playing really really well.
