3 - Uh 0

Yes - Michigan is 3-0.  Yes - Michigan is a Top-10 team.  Yes - many Wolverine fans are panicking.

For the second week in a row, Michigan looked average against an inferior opponent.    Michigan was unable to cover the spread against both Cincinnati and Air Force.  The struggles are most obvious with the offense, specifically, red zone offense.

Against the Falcons, Michigan made four trips to the red zone and only walked away with four field goals. Statistically, Michigan’s red zone offense was bleak:

Total Yards: -1
Passing Attempts/Completions: 1/7
Passing Yards: -1
Running Yards: 0

By all measure this was a completely anemic and inept effort today.  It is also too simple, and completely wrong, to put the blame entirely on the shoulders of Wilton Speight.  No, Speight does not look like the quarterback he was last year.  But 5ere were dropped balls and poor blocking that contributed greatly to the lack of red zone offense.  The play calling from OC Tim Drevano has also been head scratching the last couple of games.

Michigan nw heads to West Lafayette to face a much improved Purdue team.  While the defense has remained outstanding in their hustle and execution, the offense will need to improve their red zone efficiency.  The offense only accounted for 6 of the Wolverines 29 points (PR DPJ and kicker Quinn Nordin accounting for the other 23).  That type of output is not going to win games in the Big Ten.
