B1G Champions
For the second time in three seasons, Michigan has won (at least a share) of the Big Ten regular season championship. It is an incredible accomplishment for a team that was largely written off after Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway Jr. became NBA'ers, but it becomes an even larger accomplishment when you consider that the team lost Mitch McGary for most of the year.
It is a testament to the value of the coaching staff led by John Beilein who was named the Big Ten Coach of the Year. The team was led by Big Ten Player of the Year Nik Stauskas. Caris Lavert was undoubtedly the most improved player on the team. Derrick Walton Jr. filled in admirably at point guard - not an enviable position given that he had to replace Trey Burke.
Perhaps the most encouraging aspect of this team is the development of players once they arrive in Ann Arbor. Teams that lose their three best players are not expected to compete for Big Ten championships (see Indiana). However, Michigan appears to have a system in place which takes talent and makes it even better.
